Whole books, typeset from old scans
Free to read at library.tshustov.com
These are books I typeset for my own open catalogue, library.tshustov.com. Each one started as a scan of an old printing. I transcribed it, proofread it against the scan, marked up its structure and typeset it for the web, and soon for PDF and EPUB. The texts are in the public domain and the editions are free for anyone to use.
If you’re deciding whether to send me your manuscript, this is the work to look at. The samples on the main page show short pieces. These are whole books.
New Testament Greek for Beginners
J. Gresham Machen, 1923 · 285 pp · English and Greek

A grammar that has taught Greek for a hundred years, and a hard book to set: polytonic Greek on almost every page, 179 tables of paradigms across 41 chapters, exercises in both directions and two vocabularies. What to look at:
- Greek with every accent and breathing, set in the same paragraph as the English;
- paradigm tables that stay readable on a phone;
- the original page numbers marked in the text, so a citation like “Machen, p. 59” still works;
- the scan of each page one tap away, to check any line against the 1923 printing;
- search inside the book that finds Greek forms and English words.
